In a stunning display of breath control and mental fortitude, Thai freediver Siriporn Thanakit has claimed victory at the 2024 Asian Freediving Championships held in Koh Phi Phi, setting a new Asian record in the static apnea discipline.
Record-Breaking Performance
Thanakit held her breath for an incredible 8 minutes and 42 seconds, surpassing the previous Asian record by 15 seconds. The achievement comes after months of intensive training under the guidance of ATUS-certified coaches at our national training facility in Phuket.
"I'm incredibly proud to represent Thailand and ATUS on this international stage," said Thanakit after her victory. "This achievement belongs not just to me, but to our entire freediving community who have supported and trained with me."
Growing Success for Thai Underwater Sports
This victory marks Thailand's third international title this year, following earlier successes in finswimming and sport diving competitions. ATUS President, Khun Somchai Nakprasert, expressed his excitement about the growing recognition of Thai underwater sports athletes.
The championship also featured strong performances from other Thai athletes, with the national team finishing second overall in the competition rankings.

Thailand selected to host the 2025 CMAS Underwater Hockey World Championships in Bangkok, featuring world-class facilities and global participation.
