About Freediving

Freediving is the art of diving underwater using only the air in your lungs, without the aid of breathing apparatus. It represents the purest form of underwater exploration, combining physical fitness, mental discipline, and spiritual connection with the aquatic environment.

Competitive freediving consists of several disciplines that test different aspects of human aquatic performance, from maximum depth to longest distance and static breath-hold duration.

Freediving Disciplines

Constant Weight (CWT)

The athlete descends and ascends using fins and/or arms without pulling on the rope or using variable ballast.

Free Immersion (FIM)

The athlete descends and ascends by pulling on the rope with arms only, without fins or other propulsion.

Static Apnea (STA)

The athlete holds their breath for as long as possible while floating motionless on the water surface.

Dynamic Apnea (DYN)

The athlete travels the greatest possible horizontal distance underwater using fins.

Competition Rules & Standards

Freediving competitions in Thailand follow international standards set by AIDA (Association Internationale pour le Développement de l'Apnée) and CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques). Below you'll find official rulebooks, competition guidelines, and forms required for participation in ATUS-sanctioned events.

CMAS Freediving Rules

CMAS is one of the oldest international federations for underwater activities. Their freediving rules are used in many international competitions including the World Championships.

ATUS National Rules & Forms

ATUS has adapted international rules for the Thai context, including specific regulations for national competitions, safety requirements, and athlete registration procedures.

Safety First

Freediving requires proper training, safety protocols, and supervision. Never attempt deep freediving without proper certification and safety support. Always dive with a buddy and follow international safety standards.

ATUS-certified instructors provide comprehensive training programs that cover technique, safety, rescue procedures, and competition preparation.
