About Sport Diving

Sport Diving is the competitive form of diving that combines athletic skill, artistry, and precision. Athletes perform acrobatic dives from springboards and platforms, with judges scoring based on technique, form, and execution.

The sport demands exceptional body control, spatial awareness, and years of dedicated training to master the complex rotations, twists, and precise water entries that characterize competitive diving.

Competition Events

Springboard Diving

• 1-meter springboard: Lower height suitable for beginners and intermediate divers

• 3-meter springboard: Olympic standard height requiring advanced skills

Platform Diving

• 5-meter platform: Entry level platform diving

• 7.5-meter platform: Intermediate platform height

• 10-meter platform: Olympic standard platform diving

Synchronized Diving

• Two divers perform identical dives simultaneously

• Available in both 3m springboard and 10m platform

• Requires exceptional timing and coordination

Dive Categories

Competitive diving features six main categories of dives:

• Forward Group: Dives where the diver faces forward and rotates forward

• Back Group: Dives starting from a reverse position, rotating backward

• Reverse Group: Forward approach with backward rotation

• Inward Group: Back approach with forward rotation

• Twist Group: Dives incorporating longitudinal axis rotation

• Armstand Group: Platform-only dives starting from a handstand position

Judging & Scoring

Diving is judged by a panel of judges who evaluate:

• Starting Position: Approach, hurdle, and take-off

• Flight: Body position, technique, and height achieved

• Entry: Angle, splash control, and water entry technique

Each dive has a difficulty degree, and scores are calculated by multiplying judge scores by the difficulty factor.
